Woodland Caribou

Make Viking Island Lodge the start of your canoeing adventure on the 1.2 million acres of Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. Bring your own canoe or use ours.

Woodland Caribou Provincial Park is the sixth largest provincial park in Ontario and provides approximately 2000 kilometers of canoe routes. These routes are through two major historic river systems - the Gammon and the Bloodvein. Each are characterized by numerous irregularly shaped lakes.

You will be treated to breathtaking scenery comprised of a variety of jack pine, rich spruce, and poplar. Canoe past bedrock shorelines, cliffs, cascading waterfalls and shoot down rapids.

The park has a "Canaux-et-Lacs" drainage pattern, meaning it is controlled by the bedrock - causing the irregular shaped lakes mixed with short quick drops containing falls or rapids. This makes the fishing great and travel easy, the portages are relatively short averaging 200-300 meters in length.

Float plane is the best way to access the park. Just strap your canoe on the side! Part of the fun of visiting Viking Island Lodge is getting there.
