2024 Newsletter

Dear Viking Island Friends,

Happy New Year! We hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the upcoming fishing season. We're thrilled to share some exciting news that is sure to make your fishing adventures even more memorable in 2024!

As we kick off the new year, we want to extend a warm welcome from us (the new owners of Viking Island), the Boehms. We are passionate about preserving the rich history and traditions of this beloved Canadian fly-in fishing camp and are committed to taking your experience to new heights.

A little information about ourselves….  Teresa was raised in Red Lake and James moved to Red Lake from Winnipeg about 20 years ago.  Raising our sons, Jack and Carson, in this community has given them a deep respect for the outdoors and helped them build a strong set of wilderness skills.  We are an active outdoor family who love fishing, hunting, and camping.  There is a special place in our hearts for Woodland Caribou Provincial Park and we’ve spent a lot of time canoeing in the backcountry.  The entire family is excited to embark on our Viking Island adventure!

For the past 9 years, the Tarantino family, has played a significant role in Viking Island a home away from home for fishing enthusiasts. Their dedication to creating lasting memories and providing exceptional service has been the foundation of this remarkable establishment.

We would also like to pay tribute to the Carlson family, who built and owned Viking Island for an incredible 66 years. Their legacy lives on through the traditions, stories, and camaraderie that have been woven into the fabric of this special place. As we embark on this new chapter, we are committed to honoring and continuing the Carlson family's legacy of excellence.

What can you expect in the upcoming season?

1.    Enhanced Facilities: The Boehm’s have exciting plans to enhance the facilities, ensuring your stay at Viking Island is more comfortable and enjoyable than ever.

2.    Expanded Services: Look forward to new services and activities that will add an extra layer of excitement to your fishing experience. From optional guided tours to high speed internet, there's something for everyone.

3.    Continued Commitment to Conservation: We remain steadfast in our commitment to preserving the pristine beauty of the surrounding wilderness. Responsible and sustainable fishing practices will continue to be at the forefront of our operations.

4.    Unforgettable Moments: Get ready for a season filled with unforgettable moments, breathtaking scenery, and, of course, fantastic fishing!

As we raise our glasses to the dawn of a new era at Viking Island, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the Tarantino family for their years of hard work and dedication. We're confident that we will build on this foundation, creating new memories while honoring the cherished traditions that make Viking Island a truly special place.

Here's to another year of great fishing, camaraderie, and adventure at Viking Island!

Tight lines and warm regards,

The Boehm’s
